Here we talk you through the process of creating 3D models of a chessboard and the pieces using nothing but basic features of Blender.
3D model creation starts with an art work, which is then reconstructed using basic shapes such as circles, squares etc using a tool such as Blender. With features such as bevelling the edges, rotating the planes, layering them adjacent to one another and extruding (ie pulling the surfaces up and down the z axis) creates distinct 3D shapes like the various pieces on a chess board.
